About ODEI

The Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (VCDEI) and Chief Diversity Officer oversees the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI), a unit of the Chancellor’s Office. ODEI works closely with campus and community partners in upholding UC Santa Cruz’s commitment to institutional excellence in research, teaching, scholarship and creative activities. It works to cultivate a campus climate that welcomes all members of the university community while helping to build pathways for greater equity, inclusion, access, and belonging.

Serving students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members, ODEI’s programs aim to:

• Advocate for inclusive, and equitable policies and practices,
• Assess and improve campus climates,
• Expand access to all facets of the university experience,
• Provide meaningful educational and leadership development opportunities, and
• Center community building and celebrate diversity in all its forms.
